Dr. George Kiss Named Medical Director of LSC-North Harris EMS Program

Lone Star College-North Harris has named Dr. George Kiss the new medical director for its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professions program. Dr. Kiss currently serves, and will remain, as the medical director for both Harris County Emergency Services District One and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Medical Unit.

As medical director at LSC-North Harris, Dr. Kiss will be responsible for reviewing and approving the program’s content and instruction. He will also monitor student progress to ensure competency and assure quality among the program’s graduates.

"Dr. Kiss brings with him a wealth of experience in the emergency medical field. His involvement with the EMS professions program will be invaluable," said Dr. Bill Drees, director of the program. "In addition, he began his medical career as a paramedic so he has incredible insight into the challenges facing our students."

Dr. Kiss has been practicing emergency medicine since 1993 and hasfellowship training in EMS from the University of Pittsburgh. He has also served as the assistant EMS medical director for the Houston Fire Department from 2003 to 2008, and is a former visiting professor of emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He will also be joining the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine to assist with the training of their emergency medicine residents. Dr. Kiss holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and earned his doctoral degree from New York Medical College.

The EMS professions program at LSC-North Harris is the largest, non-nursing allied health program in the area, with more than 150 students enrolled each semester. The program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services. EMS professions programs are required to operate under the guidance of a licensed physician.
