Basic 40-Hour Mediation Training

40-hour Basic Mediation Spring 2010 Schedule Announced

Consecutive week sessions have been scheduled for Jan. 14-23 and March 3-13; classes meet for two weeks on Thursday and Friday from 2:30-8:30PM and on Saturday from 8:30-5PM. Tuition is $274 with manual. The facilitator is Brodrick W. Hill. Lone Star College-Montgomery campus is located at 3200 College Park Drive, Conroe, Texas, 77384.

This is an introductory course benefitting the general public and professionals in human resources, education, public safety, law, health care, religion, insurance, etc. The course complies with both the Texas statutory requirement for mediation training (Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Act § 154.052, Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code Ann.) and the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable Standards. Lone Star College Syestem is an approved CE provider for several professions, including State Bar of Texas.

According to Hill, the training is highly interactive. "You will learn about how to become a mediator. "Mediators are professionals who provide an impartial third-party view to disputes that range from legal settlements to political arguments. They work outside the court system to help parties reach an agreement. You will increase proficiency in the area of effective communication, including, listening skills, negotiation, and conflict resolution. During the role-play of vignettes, you will gain a greater perspective on your conflict resolution style. Completing the 40-hour Basic Mediation course, volunteering as a mediator, beginning the credential process with Texas Mediation Credentialing Association, and networking are steps to a career as a mediator."

Hill retired from Chevron Corporation after 30 years of service. His last assignment was as manager, global office of ombudsman. He was instrumental in developing and implementing the Chevron Problem Resolution process, which included the global office of ombudsman, a 24-hour hotline service, and the four-step employee problem resolution process known as Steps to Employee Problem Solution (STEPS).

He is considered to be a subject matter expert in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and conflict resolution. Brodrick W. Hill is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, and the Texas Association of Mediators. He is a past Texas Mediator Credentialing Association - Credentialed Distinguished Mediator, and board member of the International Association of Ombudsman. He has more than 19 years experience in the field of employment mediation, and has been a guest lecturer at a number of ADR conferences.
