Lane Johnson, LSC-North Harris AtD lead for EDUC 1300, reports that this semester the student success course for FTIC students, EDUC 1300, and the AtD academic advisor initiative merged so that all EDUC 1300 sections have a designated AtD advisor attached to each section. In Spring 2010, the course will be required for all FTIC students (15 hours or fewer) who place into two or more developmental areas (math, writing or reading).
· In Fall 2009, a total of 167 students enrolled in nine sections, eight sections at LSC-North Harris and one section at LSC-Carver Center.
· Each student had an assigned Advisor II.
· In Spring 2010, the number of EDUC 1300 sections will more than double with classes offered at LSC-North Harris, LSC-Greenspoint Center, and LSC-Carver Center.
Data Points
o For both Fall 2008 and Spring 2009, LSC-north Harris completion rates (all final grades, no W’s) for the FTIC students in EDUC 1300 and the non-FTIC students were statistically the same at 88%.
o Success rates for EDUC 1300 FTIC students increased from 69% in Fall 2008 to 73% in Spring 2009. The non-FTIC comparison groups had success rates of 74% in Fall 2008 and 87% in Spring 2009.
o Retention (re-enrollment to the next semester) from Fall 2008 to Spring 2009 was 83% for FTIC LSC-North Harris students, compared to 76% for non-FTIC students.
