Workforce Compliance and Law Update Workshops set for LSCS

A series of informative workshops for small business owners and human resource professionals that cover important changes in HR management and employment law will be held in April and May at the Lone Star College System office in The Woodlands.
The series, entitled “Workforce Compliance and Law Update,” will deal with the mandatory and legal obligations imposed on business owners in areas having to do with hiring and firing, the interview process, overtime, and other wage and salary issues, as well as discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
The first session “Harassment, Discrimination and Retaliation Laws” is set for April 16.
To follow on Wednesday April 30 is a session entitled “Understanding Wage and Hour Laws” and the last in the series will be held, Wednesday, May 7 and will cover “Employee Essentials: Get It Right the First Time” offering practical solutions to avoid pitfalls facing today’s employers.
These workshops are part of the effort of the Small Business Development Center at the Lone Star College System, headed by Sal Mira, director, and the Montgomery County Society for Human Resource Management, represented by Kim Fox Marchetti.
All sessions will be held at the Lone Star College System, 5000 Research Forest Drive in The Woodlands. Cost is $40 per session (includes a light lunch) or $99 for all three sessions. Each session is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The workshops will be conducted by prominent workplace authorities Joe Bontke, outreach manager, U.S. Equal Employment Commission, Houston district office; Robin Mallet, acting district director, U.S. Department of Labor, Houston district office; and Stephen Schueler, attorney-at-law and partner in Winstead’s Houston office.
This program has been designed with the guidance of Michael Starzyk, principal, Starzyk and Associates; Susan Welbes, president, MC-SHRM; Peggy Monteilh, the WorkSource; and LaRay Van Meter, human resources manager, Conservatek.
