| Goal: | Improve the advising process so that all First Time in College Students (FTIC) are advised in a comprehensive manner. |
| Current Status: |
In fall 2008, five (5) advisors managed cohorts of approximately 120 each. A fall 2008 mid-semester progress report revealed a challenge with student engagement due to selecting students from FTIC student information sessions. Based on this challenge, the spring '09 Advising cohorts are comprised of 5 sections of ENGL 0305. Each advisor is paired with 5 sections of ENGL 0305. This allows better access to students as well as the opportunity for group presentations at the instructor's request.Beginning fall 2009, the advisors are paired with the student success course sections. Every student in the success course section is on the advisor's caseload. The advisors visit the classroom as well as advise the students individually. The course currently requires the student to visit with the academic advisor twice as part of the course. As the student success course will eventually be required of all FTIC students, this will also guarantee that all FTIC students are advised. |
