Sevanthinathan To Attend U.S. Institute of Peace 2008 Seminar

Nithyanantha Sevanthinathan, Lone Star College System director of international programs and services was recently selected to attend the U.S. Institute of Peace 2008 Community College Faculty and Administrators Seminar “Global Peace and Security in Community Colleges and the Communities They Serve.”

The seminar will be held in Washington DC May 28-June 1, and is designed to give participants an opportunity to carefully examine the nature of international peace and security and how community colleges can relate this to the constituencies they serve.

The seminar will include examinations of major issues surrounding peace, conflict, and security, and of specific examples illustrative of these broad themes. The program will be structured around the areas of conflict analysis and prevention, conflict resolution and management, and post-conflict reconciliation.

“I am truly honored to be selected as a fellow to attend the U.S. Institute of Peace 2008 Community College Faculty and Administrators Seminar,” said Sevanthinathan.

“I believe that the knowledge I gain will deepen my dedication and commitment to strengthen LSCS as a world-class institution in international programs and services,” he said.      


Institute specialists and outside authorities will present on the current state of global conflict. Factors that influence conflicts such as the role of the United Nations and regional organizations; preventive diplomacy; arms proliferation and arms control; peacekeeping, peacemaking, and peace-building; and international mediation and negotiation will be closely examined.

Lone Star College System consists of five colleges, including CyFair, Kingwood, Montgomery, North Harris, and Tomball, six centers and Lone Star College-University Center.
