Don’t miss the Houston premier of Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida” set July 17 through July 27 on stage at Lone Star College-CyFair.
“Join us for this contemporary musical version of a classic tale of love and devotion. This gorgeous musical tells the tale of the forbidden love between an Egyptian soldier and an enslaved Nubian princess,” said Ron Jones, LSC-CyFair’s drama professor. “With its stirring ballads and colorful chorus numbers, ‘Aida’ is a modern crowd pleaser that embraces multi-cultural casting and exuberant dancing, staging and singing.”
Jones directs this “timeless love story” based on the book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls and David Henry Hwang. Glenn Sharp is the musical director and Daria James is the choreographer.
Cast members for this production include a mix of LSC-CyFair students and adjunct faculty as well as area high school students, vocal/music/theatre students and graduates of several colleges and universities, community members and professionals. In addition, the cast features Margaret Hoffman as Aida, Alex Stutler as Radames, Chelsea McCurdy as Amneris, John Simmons as Zoser, Darrel T. Joe as Mareb, Kristina Love as Nehebka and the Legendary C. Lee Turner as Amonasro.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays in the Main Stage Theatre located in the Center for the Arts on the Barker Cypress campus. A reception will follow the opening night performance July 18.
Tickets for preview night July 17 are $5 as are students with ID. Adult tickets are $16 and seniors are $12. Group rates are also available.
Mark your calendars Aug. 4 through Aug. 16 for the next children’s show, “Go, Dog. Go!”, an early reading book has been embraced and loved since 1961, that will be overflowing with action and canine tom foolery. It’s a big dog party to be enjoyed by all ages.
