Westerfeld Named Interim President for Lone Star College-Montgomery

HOUSTON (Jul. 11, 08) —Penny Westerfeld, was recently named interim president for Lone Star College-Montgomery.
"I am pleased to announce that Penny has accepted the appointment as interim president for the 2008-2009 academic year," said Dr. Richard Carpenter, Lone Star College System chancellor.
A native Houstonian, Penny has served LSCS in a variety of positions for 29 years including professor, associate dean for business and technology, dean of community education at LSC-North Harris, vice president of community and economic development at LSC-Kingwood and most recently as executive director of LSC-University Center.
Some of Westerfeld's achievements and accomplishments include being named Texas Business Education Teacher of the Year, Woman of Distinction by the American Association of Women in Community Colleges, "Visionary" Woman-of-Achievement Award, outstanding training provider team award for the National Workforce Training Act, and a host of others.
Westerfeld is a graduate of both Leadership North Houston and Leadership Montgomery County and currently serves as Ex-Officio on the Board of Directors. She is a member of the Career Expo Committee for South Montgomery County/The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, a member of The Rotary Club of The Woodlands, Kingwood First Baptist Church, and Chi Omega Fraternity.
Westerfeld is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and received her master's of education from the University of Houston.
"Penny's well-respected career at LSCS and her strong visibility in the community make her an ideal interim president for LSC-Montgomery," said Carpenter.
"We will launch a national search this fall for the permanent president, with the anticipation that he/she will start in the summer of 2009," he said.
Lone Star College System consists of five colleges, including LSC-CyFair, LSC-Kingwood, LSC-Montgomery, LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball, six centers and LSC-University Center.
