Healthier U Sponsors and award recipentsLone Star College-Montgomery's annual Healthier U Wellness Expo & Job Fair, which took place April 7-9, raised more than $29,000 for student scholarships, setting a new record for the long-running, 13-year-old scholarship event.
Because of the support of 26 sponsors and the hundreds of participants, many students in health-related and other programs will have the opportunity to continue their education.
The event's activities included a chili cook-off and sweets bake-off, a multimedia sale, a silent auction, as well as the wellness expo and job fair. More than 60 non-profit and for-profit businesses were on display at the wellness expo, showing interactive demonstrations and giving informal presentations. There were also 13 employers searching for candidates at the job fair.
More than 100 student volunteers from LSC-Montgomery healthcare programs worked hard to make the entire event run smoothly, but had a great time knowing they were making a contribution to a huge event.
Also, for the first time ever, Healthier U's event line-up included a golf tournament, which took place April 9 at River Plantation Country Club. Eighteen teams participated, including some LSC-Montgomery students, staff, and faculty. It turned out to be a beautiful day for golf, and the golf tournament alone raised more than $6,000 for scholarships.
