Annex A: Warning

The purpose of this annex is to outline the organization, operational concepts, responsibilities and procedures to disseminate timely and accurate warnings to the LSC community in the event of an impending emergency situation.

Concept of Operations

The primary objective of a warning system is to notify the LSC community of emergency situations and disseminate timely accurate warnings and instructions to the population at risk from the threat or occurrence of an emergency situation. Rapid dissemination and delivery of warning information and instructions may provide time for the LSC community to take action to protect themselves and their property.

The focal point of the warning function is the Local Warning Point (LWP). LSC’s LWP is the LSC Police Department’s Police Dispatch Center which is located at the Lone Star College System Office, Community Building.

The LWP receives warning of actual or potential emergency situations from a variety of sources, including campus police officers, DEP, EHLS, campus administrators, LSC students and employees, as well as outside agencies, local, state, and federal agencies, the news media, and the general public.
