Student Leaders' Role
What is a student leader's role?
Student leaders are responsible for the planning and execution of leadership and service activities. They are to be voted in by the Club or Organization members or appointed by an Advisor and must abide by the policies, regulations and other guidelines set forth by Lone Star College-Kingwood and the Lone Star College System. They must be current students at Lone Star College-Kingwood. Other members must be either current students or Alumni.
What can Advisors expect from their student leaders?
Student leaders should inform Advisors about activities, meeting times, agendas, and they should provide the Advisor with meeting minutes. They should also meet with Advisors regularly to discuss plans and problems.
Below is a list of common officer positions (also known as Executive Committee, Leadership Team, Board). The best officer teams identify each officer's strengths and delegate responsibilities to those whose strengths will compliment the task.
- Leader and face of the organization; Networks with other organzations, potentional members, and campus personnel
- Keeps everyone focused
- Presides over club meetings
- Fills in for the President when neccessary
- Supports the President with almost everything
- Appoints and oversees
- Keeps minutes at meetings
- Keeps track of records of members
- Keeps record of all events including member participation
- Works closely with the Club Advisor to maintain budget Note: Club Advisors must approve all expenses
- Works closely with the Office of Student Life to orders supplies and food
- Forecasts expenses for next year's budget
- Consults with President regarding budgeting decisions
Public Relations Officer
- Responsible for club publicity on campus (flyers, yard signs, digital signage, etc.)
- Maintains club e-mail account
- Corresponds with members regarding club activities
- Represents the organization at all Student Government Association General Assemblies and Congress of Clubs Congressional Assembly
Every Registered Student Organization (RSO) is required to submit a Constitution to the Office of Student Life shortly after they apply for their initial registration. The purpose of having a constitution is to (1) ensure a smooth transition for new officers, (2) provide club leaders and the Office of Student Life a reference source for policies and procedures, (3) assist the club in maintaining a sense of order.
- Registration Form - To register a new club with the Office of Student Life. Note: Information will appear on the club website n the manner in which it is written on the form.
- New Officers/Representatives Registration - Each time new students are elected to office, this form must be turned in
- Student Leader Biography - All officers wishing to be listed on the Club/Organization website must submit this form.
- Member Roster Template - Complete and return to The Office of Student Life each semester
- Congress of Clubs Report Template - Complete and bring to Congress of Clubs assembly each semester
- Travel Forms - Request for approval of LSCS sponsored student travel. Must be completed for every trip.

All students involved with a Registered Student Organization must abide by the Student Code of Conduct. Additional policies relevant to student organizations are listed below.
- Postings that do not comply with all listed guidelines will be removed from the bulletin board.
- All postings must be approved by the appropriate LSC-Kingwood department, unless the posting was created by Designs-In-Print. See chart below.
- Postings are only allowed in the designated area. Do not post on windows, walls, or doors.
- Use thumb tacks only. Do not use staples.

- CLA - 1st floor on the wall adjacent to the teaching theatre across from the courtyard entrance doors
- CLB - On the wall immediately to the left of the restrooms
- LIB - 2nd floor across from stairs and on the wall adjacent to the lounge area
- HSB - On the first floor outside faculty suites
- FTC - On the left wall as you are walking to the "locker rooms"
- PAC - Across from daycare center & commons area

- Postings shall include a disclosure statement stating that LSC-K does not endorse/support the business or community postings

In accordance with the Penal Code of the State of Texas, no person affiliated with a Lone Star College-Kingwood Student Activities Club or Organization may participate in hazing practices. This includes but is not limited to:
- "performing an act or subjecting another to a situation or action that causes undue mental or physical discomfort or danger to one's self or others;
- is morally degrading or ethically unsound; causes public humiliation;
- could cause damage to public or personal property;
- is contrary to any local, state or federal laws;
- interferes with educational activities, or is not in keeping with the stated educational mission of" The Lone Star College System.

Athough student leaders have freedom of choice in the selection of members, they may not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, disability, age, veteran status, national origin, or ethnicity.
Students have described an Advisor as someone who... "Inspires and empowers students to fulfill their role, to mentor, to coach and to motivate"
In short, what is a Club Advisor?
An Advisor's primary role is to guide officers and members through the appropriate execution of club-related procedures and activities (e.g., meetings, events). They should be able to answer general questions regarding the method in which the club is run. They are responsible for getting expenses and travel approved by the Office of Student Life before they are needed. They work with officers to ensure that the planning and execution of leadership and service activities is smooth.
What is a good Advisor?
A good Advisor helps student leaders to consider issues that related to ideas being approached by the organization. If students' ideas are inappropriate or violate some policy or procedure, the Advisor should challenge the students to consider alternatives. Officers should be encouraged by their Advisor to take chances delegating authority to less proven members. The Advisor should also evaluate student leaders periodically.
What can students expect from their Advisor?
The Advisor should be the most valuable resource for students when they are attempting to improve the way meetings are run, formulate goals and solutions, evaluate projects or events. Advisors should also advocate for the Club or Organization during Faculty/Staff Meetings.
