Major: Communication
Hometown: Baton Rouge, LA

  • Why did you join this organization? To improve my speaking skills.
  • What are your personal goals for the semester? To achieve a 3.6 GPA and qualify for AFA Speech & Debate Nationals.
  • What are your goals for the organization? To increase membership and continue to earn national recognition.
  • What are your career interests? Sales or law school.
  • What are your hobbies outside of school? I'm a debater; I have no time for hobbies. Does sleep count?

I was born in Baton Rouge, LA and moved to Kingwood in 2001. I was homeschooled and competed in various sports - including hockey, fencing, and basketball. This is my second year on the Speech and Debate Team and I'm very excited to be taking a leadership role.

"Although speech and debate requires a lot of time and effort, it is worth it. You get out what you put into it." -Stephen Moodie

Brett Hopkins
Assistant Captain

Major: Undecided
Hometown: Kingwood, TX

  • Why did you join this organization? I did it in high school and wanted to continue.
  • What are your personal goals for the semester? To qualify for nationals and keep a 3.6 GPA.
  • What are your goals for the organization? I hope to improve the quality of the speakers and debaters.
  • What are your career interests? I want to be a good teacher/debate coach.
  • What are your hobbies outside of school? I love to read and learn in practical ways.

I was a student with bad grades and no out-of-school interests. Debate saved me and helped me to improve my grades and self-confidence greatly.

"I would definitely join debate. It is great and really widens your perspective on life." - Brett Hopkins
