History of the LSCS Annual International Education Conference (IEC)
The annual International Education Conference originated as a result of Title VI funding by the U.S. Department of Education, awarded to LSC-North Harris for the development of International Education initiatives and programs.
The aim of the Conference was to gather expert speakers to dialogue with community college faculty and administrators about best practices in international education. The result was a system-wide (five colleges), regional IE Conference including community colleges from across the Gulf Coast region (Lee College, College of the Mainland, Wharton Community College, Houston Community College, and Galveston College).
The first conference was held on a Saturday, with former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, as well as former Mayor of San Antonio, Henry Cisneros as Keynote Speaker. To increase student participation, the second Conference was moved to Friday and included student oriented sessions. Model UN students from the five colleges of the Lone Star College System hold a panel presentation on their experiences as an international student delegation.
