Adult Education Program

What is the Adult Education Program?

The Adult Education Program offers Adult Basic Education, Basic English as a Second Language, English Literacy & Civics classes and GED preparation at several locations in the Lone Star College Adult Education service area. 

The programs are designed for native and non-native speakers who want to improve their language skills and gain the core skills they need to obtain a GED.

Beginner, intermediate and advanced classes are available for free on a first come, first served basis. 

Featured Classes

English Literacy and Civics Classes

Teaches students to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Students will learn about the U.S. systems of government, banking, education, healthcare, and community resources.

After completing this course, students may move on to Adult Basic Education or GED classes at LSC-North Harris.

Basic English as a Second Language

ESL classes are designed to help students improve reading, writing, listening to and speaking English.

Transition Classes

Designed for high level ESL students who need to develop writing, reading, critical thinking, and job skills, in addition to the skills needed to transition to GED or college classes.

GED/Pre-GED Classes

Designed for students who need to develop mathematics, writing, reading, critical thinking, and job skills, in addition to the skills needed to be successful in a GED class. The classes provide instruction and practice in all areas of the GED test.

Eligibility & Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older (if younger, must provide parental permission)
• Must live in Lone Star College Adult Education Program Service Area, which encompasses the Aldine, Humble, Spring and Tomball ISDs
• Find out your service area
• Must present valid photo ID at the time of registration/assessment
• Must take the BEST Plus test
• No children allowed in the testing area

The Adult Education Program is funded by the Texas Education Agency, whose mission is to provide leadership, guidance and resources to help schools meet the educational needs of all students. The program is funded through the Workforce Investment Act-Title II Adult Education and Family Literacy Act.
