Apply Today - Steps

STEP 1 - Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

1. Apply for a PIN number from the Department of Education at www.pin.ed.gov  for you and your parent (if required to include parent information).  The PIN serves as an electronic signature if you choose to complete your FAFSA online.
   
   
2. Complete and submit the 2008 - 2009 FAFSA to the Department of Education for processing.  Students may submit the 2008 - 2009 FAFSA online or complete the form by hand and mail it to the address provided for processing. There is a help menu online that will guide you through the application submission process.
   

   Online Application:

   If you choose to submit an online application, students may access the 2008 - 2009 PDF at www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov, allow up to 7 business days before returning to the website to print out a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).

   Paper Application:

   Students may obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) toll free at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).  Students may request up to three copies of the paper application and should receive there FAFSA's in 3 - 7 business days.  If you mail your FAFSA application, allow up to 4 weeks to receive a copy of your (SAR).

   
   
3. Be sure to list Lone Star College - North Harris as an eligible school to receive an electronic copy of your FAFSA results known as your SAR.  Our Title IV school code is 011145. 

STEP 2 - Institutional Worksheet

1. After completing the requirements listed in Step 1 above, complete the 2008 - 2009 Lone Star College - North Harris Financial Aid Worksheet.  Submit the worksheet with a copy of your SAR to the financial aid office.
   
   
2. If you did not list Lone Star College-North Harris as an eligible school to receive an electronic copy of your FAFSA results, you will need to contact the Department of Education at 800-433-3243 to add our school code (011145) OR you can go online at www.fafsa.ed.gov .  Allow up to 7 business days before returning to the website to obtain a copy of your SAR.
   
   
3. Our office will then review your SAR results to determine if any additional information is required. 
   • If your SAR was selected for a review known as "verification",  you will be asked to provide at a minimum a copy of you and/or your parents signed 2007 federal income tax return (if required to include parent information) AND an institutional verification worksheet.
   • If any additional documentation is needed, we will contact you at your preferred email address on file with our college Admissions office.

STEP 3 - Award Determination

1. After completing the requirements listed in Steps 1 and 2 above, our office will determine if you qualify for federal, state, and/or institutional aid.  Once a determination has been made, an award notification OR non-eligible notification will be sent to the preferred email address on file with our college Admissions Office. 

NOTE: This process takes approximately 8 - 10 weeks.
