The software will filter all inbound mail destined for the Lone Star College System email server. Email deemed as SPAM will be "quarantined" into a section viewable only by yourself and, if requested, by the email administrator.
Reports:
You will receive reports (SPAM Summary Reports) via email after the system records a SPAM message destined for your mailbox (If you don't receive a report, you don't have filtered email quarantined yet).
If there is SPAM quarantined, your reports will come to you every day; however, you may choose to change the frequency of your reports (Daily, 2 days, 3 days, once a week, or never). It is suggested that you choose once a week. If you choose 'never', understand that your account will continue to be filtered, but you will not receive reports. You may still go to the website to view your account (http://portal.mxlogic.com), and opt back into receiving reports, or to release filtered email to your mailbox.
Options for Handling SPAM:
The reports will show you the email that the system has quarantined. You have several options for handling the quarantined messages.
You may 'Release' each individual email to your mailbox, or
You may 'Delete All' the items, or
In the event that you determine the system is interpreting good email as SPAM, you may choose to 'Always Allow' the email from the sender address to be sent to your mailbox.
For Example: If you wanted to always receive email from Apple Computers concerning their new products, you would choose 'Always Allow' on that item.
You may also click on the Subject line of each item and view the email message via your web browser software, to determine the content of the message. Clicking on the subject will open a window in your web browser and direct you to a website at MXLogic.com. This website is a portal where you may manage your account (change your password, delete items individually, etc.)
Managing Your Filtering Account:
You can utilize the MXLogic website to manage several features of your personal filtering account:
Set your filtering password (NOT the same as your Lone Star College System email password)
Edit your Allow List (to always allow delivery of certain messages)
Edit your Deny List (to always deny delivery of certain messages)
Password:
It is suggested that you set your MXLogic password (via the MXLogic website) as soon as you receive your first 'SPAM Summary Report'. You make this change while at the MXLogic website. As mentioned above, you initially access your filtering account at MXLogic by clicking on the subject of one of your quarantined messages listed in a SPAM Summary Report. After you have set your password, you will be able to login and view your quarantined email at http://portal.mxlogic.com at your convenience (without first opening a SPAM Summary Report).
To set the password, select the 'Setup' Tab at the top of the window listing your SPAM messages, and follow instructions to set your password.
NOTE: Your MXLogic password is completely different from the password you use to get into your Lone Star College System email account.
Edit the Allow List:
The Allow List permits you to individually disable filtering for all messages that are sent from an email address that you add to the list.
Click on the "Allow/Deny" tab at the top of the window listing your SPAM messages.
In the "Allow List" section of the window, add or remove senders' email addresses from whom you wish to always receive messages.
Edit the Deny List:
A 'Deny List' contains email addresses of senders from whom you do not wish to receive email. The system will quarantine all messages originating from the listed email addresses, even if they are not identified as SPAM messages. This option is also available via the 'Allow/Deny' Tab on the top of the MX Logic web page.
Click on the "Allow/Deny" tab at the top of the window listing your SPAM messages.
In the "Deny List" section of the window, add or remove senders' email addresses from whom you DO NOT wish to receive messages.
Assistance:
Should you have any problems with the filtering system, simply contact the System Office Service Desk (x6600, or 832.813.6600) for assistance.
Should you receive SPAM directly into your mailbox (in other words, the filtering system has missed a bit of SPAM), simply delete the message. Understand that the product is not 100% effective. However, we have found the product to be 99% effective for my email.
