2018 Summer Bridge Program

Interested in earning up to 6 credit hours during the summer?
 

The Summer Bridge Program assists students from Aldine ISD and Spring ISD transition from high school to Lone Star College. Our ten-week Summer Bridge Program is designed with graduating seniors needs in mind.  By taking advantage of this special opportunity, students will have a better chance of being successful at Lone Star College-North Harris and will get a head start on their college career. DATES AND TIMES

June 12 - August 16 from 9:45 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

THE COURSEWORK

Students may register for one of the following courses:

  • Math 1314 - College Algebra for students pursuing a 4-year degree and some associate degrees
  • Math 0310 - Intermediate Algebra for students not meeting entry requirements for MATH 1314

In addition, all students will be taking:

  • EDUC 1300: Learning Framework – First-Year Experience, a special course designed to help students be successful in college

Students successfully completing Math 1314 or Math 1332 and EDUC 1300 will earn six credit hours.

THE COST

The cost of attending Summer Bridge Program is the same as regular tuition and fees (approximately $450 for two courses). Students are encouraged to complete the 2017-2018 FAFSA at https://fafsa.ed.gov/, determine if they qualify for summer financial aid. Financial aid applications for summer 2018 are now being accepted! Students are urged to apply to the program and financial aid by April 1.

SCHOLARSHIPS

A limited number of scholarships will be available in the spring. Check back in March for scholarship information. Until then, please visit https://fafsa.ed.gov/ and complete the 2017-2018 FASFA to determine if you qualify for summer financial aid.

HOW TO QUALIFY

  • Be a graduating senior from the Aldine or Spring community
  • Meet one of the following requirements to take Math 0310: Intermediate Math or Math 1314: College Algebra:
    • Math 0310: Intermediate Math
      • TSI Math Score: 343 to 349
    • Math 1314: College Algebra
      • TSI Math Score: 343 to 349
      • SAT Math Score
        • 500-549 with composite 1070 (before 3/5/16)
        • 530–569 with no coposite given (after 3/5/16)
      • ACT: 19-22 with composit 23
      • College Prep Students in Aldine and Spring ISD: Successfully completion the Math College Prep Course

EXPECTATIONS OF SUMMER BRIDGE PARTICIPANTS

 

Students are expected to:

  1. be enthusiastic, focused and dedicated to making academic progress
  2. attend class on all scheduled days
  3. attend tutorials at least 3 hours per week (exceptions with instructor approval)
  4. attend and participate in:
    • New Student Summer Bridge Orientation
    • Awards Ceremony
    • Group and individual photoshoots
