LSC-Tomball Pharmacy IV Sterile Compounding Certification Course

If you are seeking to fulfill continuing education requirements for sterile compounding, the Lone Star College-Tomball CPE Program will be offering a home study and live workshop continuing education (CE) opportunity for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.  Choose either the January or February course when applying below.

  • DATES: 
  • January 2020
    Students will complete two weeks of online course work during the first two weeks in January.  Students will then complete the hands-on lab portion on January 21, 23, 28 and 30.  Lab times on these dates will be 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Attendance at all four lab dates/times is mandatory.
  • February 2020
    Students will complete two weeks of online course work during the first two weeks in February.  Students will then complete the hands-on lab portion on February 18, 20, 25 and 27.  Lab times on these dates will be 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Attendance at all four lab dates/times is mandatory.

    Report to classroom 316 each of the dates above at 4:30 for a recap and overview.  Students will then move to the Pharmacy lab room 323.

    The CPE Activity costs $400
    plus the cost of the textbook

Please note there is a limited number of seats for these courses.  When completing the online application, please indicate if you would like to attend the January or February course.  After submitting your online application below, you will be contacted by a LSC corporate college representative for payment and registration.

Please note that all Lone Star College campuses will be closed December 19 through January 1 so please plan accordingly if you would like to attend the January class.

Our Mission
Lone Star College-Tomball Pharmacy Technology Department will provide interactive, cost-effective, continuing pharmacy education (CPE) to allow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to maintain and enhance their professional competencies through instruction in sterile compounding for those who practice in pharmacies that prepare compounded sterile products (CSPs) as required by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. At its core, all CPE activities will be centered on the delivery of patient-centered care efforts.

CPE Requirements for Credit
Participants must complete an activity evaluation form and feedback form.

Course Objectives
At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:

  • List the conditions and practices outlined in USP Chapter <797> to prevent contamination of compounded sterile preparations (CSPs);
  • State requirements for the environment and for personnel gowning and garbing required by USP Chapter <797> for individuals compounding sterile preparations;
  • Define medical and pharmacy terminology and abbreviations used in sterile compounding.
  • Compare the various calculation methods that are appropriate for specific sterile compounding scenarios.
  • Distinguish between the various dosage calculation methods used in the preparation of CSPs.
  • Appraise the application of pharmacy math and aseptic technique principals as applied to various CSP procedures.
  • Evaluate USP<797> principles related to sterile compounding and aseptic technique.
  • Employ various pharmaceutical calculation methods used in sterile compounding.
  • Assemble various compounded sterile preparations.
  • Assess compliance with fundamental aseptic technique requirements during process validation procedures.

At the completion of this activity, the Technician will be able to:

  • List the conditions and practices outlined in USP Chapter <797> to prevent contamination of compounded sterile
  • preparations (CSPs);
  • State requirements for the environment and for personnel gowning and garbing required by USP Chapter <797> for individuals compounding sterile preparations;
  • Identify medical and pharmacy terminology and abbreviations used in sterile compounding.
  • List the various calculation methods that are appropriate for specific sterile compounding scenarios.
  • Solve equations using the basic dosage calculation, ratio-proportion, and dimensional analysis in the preparation of CSPs.
  • Apply pharmacy math and aseptic technique principals to CSP procedures.
  • Describe USP<797> principles related to sterile compounding and aseptic technique.
  • Use appropriate pharmaceutical calculation methods in sterile compounding scenarios.
  • Assemble various compounded sterile preparations.
  • Demonstrate compliance with fundamental aseptic technique requirements during process validation procedures.
