How To Apply

In order to apply for your GI Bill educational benefits you must:
  • Determine what chapter you are eligible for.

    Please refer to the “What Chapter Am I” link to help you determine the correct chapter.

  • Complete the appropriate application packet pertaining to your chapter and status.

    For your convenience you may pick up a packet at the financial aid office of your campus, or you may print the forms needed from the "Forms" link located on this website, or you may have one mailed to you by contacting the Veteran Services System office.

  • If you are the veteran, include a copy of your DD214 or DD2384, whichever applies.

  • If you are the dependent of a veteran, please include a copy of your birth certificate or marriage license.

  • After completing your packet you may give it back to the campus and ask that they inner-office mail it to the Veteran Services office or you may mail it via US postal mail.
Additional Information:
    • Although it is possible to be eligible for more than 1 chapter at a time, you may only claim 1 chapter in any single semester.

    • You must request an official transcript from any previously attended post secondary schools.

    • Please be aware that you are responsible for the payment of your courses. Your GI Bill benefits are paid after your first month of school attendance, however, this is contingent upon the time frame of the completion of your certification.

    • It is very important that you enroll in courses that are part of your chosen degree plan. The Veteran Services office is only authorized to approve and certify courses that apply to your current Lone Star College System degree plan. To view and/or print your degree plan please see the “degree plan” link on the left side of this page.

    • You must report to the Veteran Services office any time you drop or add a class. Failure to do so may result in an overpayment or a shortage of payment.

    • In order to receive payment: Chapter 30 and chapter 1606 veterans must complete enrollment verification each month on or after the last day of the month in order to receive payment for that month. Your enrollment verification can be verified on the VA website (WAVE) https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/ or by phone at:
