Curriculum & Instruction
The Curriculum and Instruction department provides support to and works in collaboration with the LSCS colleges to continually strengthen instruction and related programs and services. Committees are utilized to oversee and develop recommendations regarding all instructional issues. Leadership is provided through the Council for Education and Student Development (CESD). Opportunity for faculty and staff involvement on numerous committees is available on a regular basis.
Oversight of the district curriculum process involves a strong grass-roots collaborative approach to insure that all credit and continuing education offerings are current and maintain quality and relevancy. The credit process involves faculty representation from all of the colleges with deans serving as curriculum team facilitators. Continuing education courses and program development is currently facilitated by the CE Council, who review all campus course submissions via their Council representative. The Associate Vice Chancellor serves as the instructional liaison to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). The department also coordinates the development of the college catalog and credit course schedules which provide information on all credit degree programs and certificates.
The district maintains a focus to serve the community through high quality workforce programs.
Existing workforce programs work closely with
advisory committees to maintain a strong link with business and industry.
The district is also continually looking at new programs that could be implemented to further serve the community.
New program development is coordinated by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Workforce Education who works closely with the curriculum and instruction area.
One step in the
new program development process is an
analysis of the labor market for the proposed program.
Student opportunities for college credit include enrolling in dual credit courses while still enrolled in high school, articulation of high school courses through statewide and local high school articulation agreements. Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) provides further alternatives through internal and external challenge exams, portfolios, etc.
As part of our institutional effectiveness efforts all workforce programs participate in an internal program review process. The process involves faculty, advisory committees, students, graduates, and employers.
Facilitation and support of numerous instructional issues and initiatives that occur throughout the district, including Tech Prep, the credit catalog, and credit schedule coordination.
