2007 Essay Contest

Annually, the Lone Star College System Foundation sponsors an essay contest based on the theme "What My College Education Means to Me." Open to all students in the district, one student essay is selected from each college to be featured at the Chancellor's Breakfast. All winners receive scholarships to further their education at Lone Star College System.

Finalists receive a $1000 scholarship (for the next full-time semester), and a Certificate of Recognition from the Foundation.

Your essay must address how your educational experience has shaped and directed your life. Your essay will be evaluated on expressive writing style, grammar, form, and emotional impact.

Requirements:

  • You must be enrolled full-time or part-time in credit classes
  • You must have a high school diploma or GED certification
  • Essay must be maximum 2 pages typed, 12-point Times New Roman, double spaced.

Entries must include name, address, phone number, and recent photograph.

Deadlines for entries vary

  • Lone Star College-Kingwood        November 30
  • Lone Star College-North Harris     November 30
  • Lone Star College–CyFair           December 3
  • Lone Star College–Montgomery    December 5
  • Lone Star College–Tomball          December 10

Finalists will present their essays at the Chancellor’s Breakfast on Wednesday, January 30, 2008.
