I have always had big dreams and big goals for myself ever since I can remember. The only obstacle that has stopped my eagerness is that I am shy of talking to people, taking chances, and thinking positive. The day I stepped through the doors of college life and came to Lone Star College-North Harris, my personality changed, and I become a risk taker. The Lone Star College System has strengthened my character by showing me to strive for my goals. With the knowledge I attain from my college years, I will be ready to enter the world as a knowledgeable, successful citizen ready to help others.

Lone Star College-North Harris has not only guided me through my career goals, but it has also brought me a loving, friendly environment to go to. For example, everyone that has approached me smiles and talks to me like I am family to them. The high caliber councilors, teachers, and students are always telling me that I can achieve my goals, and they have encouraged me to keep on going. This supportive crowd is one of the major reasons for my progress in life. For example, an important asset in doing well academically and socially in college is a community environment where one can get to know other students and faculty members on a one-on-one basis. Further, when going to class, the professors are excited and enthusiastic about their work. This main component of education makes the classes interesting, causing me to participate, help others, do my best, and give all my effort. Lone Star College-North Harris has helped me sway, change, and guide my life in such a way that the change is almost mystical. The guidance from numerous advisors has helped me gain the ability to make my own decisions and improve my character at my own speed.

One of the most influential bits of advice that I have gained while going to NHC is that everyone should contribute to her society and stay active in her community while working towards her educational goals. By following this wise advice I have met incredible people, gained a group of lifelong friends, strengthened my personal feelings about going to North Harris, and clarified the main reason why I am furthering my education.
Recently, during Thanksgiving dinner, my Aunt Mary was talking about “change” at the dinner table. As I remember, she was talking about the workers at her company. While that conversation went on, my name was mentioned. I don’t know how it came up, but she said to my parents that my personality had really changed in so many good ways from the last time she had seen me. When she said that, at that moment I noticed both of my parents gazing at me with admiration. My father said, “I know she has changed! I’m thankful that she has evolved into a considerate, kindhearted, knowledgeable young lady.” He also said that he was very proud of me because I was his first daughter to go to college. Those words that my father said that night touched my heart, and I knew that continuing my education at Lone Star College-North Harris meant so much to not only me but my family as well.

Lone Star College-North Harris has shaped me into a caring, compassionate, and sympathetic person. For example, I learned from Mr. Barrows in Introduction to Speech Communications class that it is useless walking around school with one’s head down, zoned-out in one’s own ego. Another important skill that I have learned at NHC is that when you have your head up, walking like you are someone, you are inviting various, unexpected opportunities to happen. This advice has influenced my life in many ways. I believe that the things one person accomplishes and the goals that one sets comes from the experiences that person has during their lifetime. I have devoted my life to setting goals and accomplishing them to the very best of my abilities. Lone Star College-North Harris has allowed me to change my life and become a successful, knowledgeable, sympathetic citizen.
