ATCP Admissions Information & Requirements

Admissions into the Lone Star College-Tomball Alternative Teacher Certification Program will require that all applicants must:

  • Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 2.5 GPA and 24 credit hours in content area, of which 12 are in upper division.
  • Meet the program requirements for Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) scores; minimum scores: Reading 240, Math 270, Writing 240. Taken within the last five years.
  • Have US citizenship or be a permanent resident
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check by approved field experience sites
  • You are required to notify our ATCP department if you are arrested or convicted of any offense after placement in your field experience site.
  • Successfully complete a personal  interview

For admission into the program, please include all of the items listed below. To help make sure no items are misplaced it is best to submit the items together at the same time. Please submit your completed application to the CE Department - Attention ATCP, Lone Star College-Tomball, 30555 Tomball Parkway, Tomball, TX 77375 or you may deliver it to room E166- Lone Star College-Tomball (main campus only).

  • Application form (pdf)
  • Application fee - $40 (non-refundable) Please make checks payable to Lone Star College-Tomball.
  • Official transcripts in their original postmarked, sealed envelope from all colleges/universities attended
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Official passing test score report (THEA) in the original postmarked, sealed envelope
  • Essay on "Why I Want to be a Teacher"
  • 3 confidential reference forms in three individually sealed envelopes with your name on the outside of the envelopes 
  • Resume
  • Completed criminal background check by an approved vendor

Screening Process
 
Candidates will be evaluated on the following screening criteria:
  • Application materials
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Review of official transcripts from all college/universities attended
  • Official passing test score report (THEA)
  • 3 confidential reference forms
  • Interview
  • Presentation of completed applicant file to LSC-Tomball's Teacher Education Program's Advisory Committee (three times a year)
