Tech Prep Credit Eligibility Requirements
You must apply for prior learning assessment (PLA) credit before your tech prep courses are applied to your college program. Review this list to determine if you are eligible to apply for PLA Credit by High School Articulation:
- All students must have graduated from high school and submit a final high school transcript to apply for credit
- Within 15 months of high school graduation, apply for admission to LSC, enroll in classes, and apply for PLA credit
- Complete sequence of articulated course(s) in junior and/or senior year of high school with a grade of at least 80 in those courses and any prerequisites. Articulation for RNSG 1172 is extended to 36 months to allow time for admission to the Nursing Program. (Must be admitted to LSCS Nursing Program to receive credit award.)
- For a student to receive credit for high school courses taken as a freshman or sophomore, another articulated career and technical elective course in a coherent sequence must be taken as a junior or senior. A minimum grade of 80 must then be earned in all courses and prerequisites.
- Students should be encouraged to continue on the path of course work that they started in high school through articulation and select their major as the appropriate AAS program. However, the articulated courses may also suffice as electives on a different program where possible.
- Submit an Application for Prior Learning Assessment by Articulation PLUS an official copy of a final high school transcript showing credit for the articulated course via an A in the course type column to a counselor/advisor for approval (How to Request Credit for High School Articulation). Without the A code, we cannot award credit.
- Complete at least 6 credit hours, non-developmental coursework at Lone Star College System from courses listed in the student's degree plan (can be CLEP, AP, dual credit). These 6 hours must be completed within 1 year of the date of the application before articulated credit can be granted. Articulation for RNSG 1172 requires 10 additional credit hours instead of 6, along with admission to the Nursing Program.
