Reviewing the High School Transcript
Here are the steps to follow when reviewing the student's transcript:
1. Find the course abbreviation in the CT, CTE, or elective area.
2. Did the student graduate within the last 15 months?
3. Did the student take the course or courses in their Junior or Senior year? Credit may be applied for courses in the 9th and 10th grade so long as there is an articulated course in the 11th or 12th grade.
4. Is the student enrolling in courses and applying for credit within 15 months of graduation?
5. Is the final grade for each semester an 80 or above? Is the course 1 full credit? (Locally articulated courses that are not usually 1 credit, but are still eligible for application are noted in the ISD course articulation lists. All ATC courses must be 1 full credit.)
6. Has the student completed 6 semester credit hours (sch) non-developmental course work? Dual credit and AP will count toward the 6 sch. Please hold the application until the student completes this requirement.
7. Is the student interested in completing the degree that includes their articulated courses? If not, be sure the articulated credit will fill an elective requirement.
Filling out the High School Articulation PLA Application
Once the above criteria are met, you and the student are ready for the application.
1. Print the application: High School Articulation PLA
- Ask the student to fill in the top portion, then...
2. Find the PEIMS number:
Look for the "-TP" or "A" next to the course abbreviation on the student's high school transcript.
- "-TP" -- open the statewide articulation chart and find the matching course abbreviation and PEIMS number
- "A" -- open the local course articulation by ISD to find the matching course abbreviation and PEIMS number
If you are unable to locate the PEIMS number or the "-TP" or "A" on the transcript, please call Courtney Powell at extension 6779.
Tips on Guidance
Please, check the 2006-2007 Career Focus Magazine for job title and salary information regarding technical degrees and certificates. This will help the student see the value in a 2-year degree.
Tech Prep AAS degree transferability:
- Check "Opportunities Beyond the Tech Prep AAS" for a link between Lone Star College System 2-year AAS degrees and partnering universities
- Students must check with the university they plan to transfer to verify transferability of 2-year degree and course credits
Credit Maximum Beyond the Bachelor Degree
- Articulated credit DOES NOT count toward the 30 credit maximum overage rule
- i.e., articulated credit will not be held against the student later
