Music Ensembles

LSC-University Park currently offers the following ensemble performance opportunities for students:

Large Ensembles

All students may audition for large ensembles. Students pursuing an AA in music will need four semesters of large ensemble. Jazz Ensemble may only be used by guitarists and bass players as large ensembles.

Symphony Orchestra

Director: Carlos Lara
The study and performance of music compositions for full orchestra, including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Auditions are offered every semester or by appointment.

Jazz Ensemble

The study and performance of big band jazz. Swing, Latin, rock and/or other jazz styles are included. A maximum of four credit hours may be earned. Auditions are offered every semester or by appointment. Please note that Jazz Ensemble may only be used toward the large ensemble requirements of the AA in Music by guitar and bass majors.

Concert Choir

Director: Kaitlin DeSpain
This ensemble exposes student to a wide variety of traditional choral repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the present. Students in this ensemble learn to apply healthy vocalism, critical listening skills, and expressive musicianship in this immersive choral experience.

UP Chorale

This Tuesday evening choral ensemble brings together students, faculty, staff, and community members to perform masterworks and vocal chamber music.

Small Ensembles

All students may audition for small ensembles. These cannot be used toward the four required semesters of large ensemble for the AA in Music, but students may take them for experience or elective credits. (1 credit of elective is required for the AA in Music, and most degrees include electives for which this can be used. Check with an advisor to see if these ensembles fit your degree plan.)

Percussion Ensemble

Director: Lamar Burkhalter
The Percussion Ensemble performs classical, marching, and novelty percussion. It is recommended for music majors whose performing medium is percussion, and is open to other qualified students by approval of department. This course is by audition and not all students who audition will be offered a spot in the ensemble. Auditions are offered every semester or by appointment.

Chamber Singers

The Chamber Singers are a small vocal ensemble performing sacred and secular choral literature of various eras, including madrigals.
