Area companies seek employees at college job fair

Area companies seek employees at college job fairThe Career Services department at Lone Star College-Kingwood invites job seekers to attend its first Job Fair for fall 2018.

The free event is on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 12-2 p.m. in the Student Conference Center (SCC) Atrium. Companies will be on-site to recruit for a variety of entry-level positions such as business administration, customer service representatives, restaurant and banquet staff, police officer cadets, and more.

“I hope that employers will take advantage of the opportunity to hire our talented, hard-working and ambitious LSC-Kingwood students and alumni,” said Donna Washington, Career Services program manager. “I hope that prospective employees will use this event as a way to showcase their education and skills to gain the full-time and part-time positions that they seek.”

LSC-Kingwood’s Career Services department hosts two job fairs each academic year and provides free resources to students and the business community year round. Job seekers should dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resumes. They are also encouraged to visit employers’ websites and fill out applications before the event.

“The purpose of the Job Fair is to continue the college’s commitment to serving our community by providing a platform for our students and community members to meet local employers,” she said.

LSC-Kingwood’s Job Fair will help to boost Lake Houston’s economy, which took a hit during Hurricane Harvey. This event proves that area businesses are recovering and are bringing jobs back to the community. Also, some employers will hire on the spot.

“#HoustonStrong is a very accurate description of our spirit, as well as, our current economy. Like LSC-Kingwood, many of the businesses damaged by Hurricane Harvey remain invested in the Lake Houston area,” Washington said. “This confidence is reflected in a lower unemployment rate and an increase in the number of jobs, which benefits both employers and job seekers.”

Businesses that will participate in the job fair are ABM Aviation, Accountemps, BBVA Compass, Best Buy, Brookdale Senior Living, Burke’s Outlet, Chick-Fil-A Kingwood, City of Houston Health Department, Hertz, Houston Police Department, and Humble Independent School District.
