    Interns ONLY

    Tuesday, August 25, 2009

    Dear Alternative Teacher Certification Intern:

"You have seen what might be; now go and make it so",  isone of the most powerful lines in Richard Paul Evan's book, The Spyglass. This eloquently written line truly expresses to the reader how powerful it is for one to think with the end in mind, and to have the faith to see and expect the impossible. On that note, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the ATCP Program at LSC-North Harris Alternative Teacher Certification Program. Through my personal spyglass, I envision a department that will not only continue to flourish into one of the top ATCP Programs in the state of Texas, but  one that will continue to  offer interns a multitude of opportunities to promote student learning, to implement effective, responsive instruction and assessment, and to fulfill professional roles and responsibilities in the field of education.

Keep in mind that the journey on which you are embarking is one that will be challenging. However, it will be full of rich rewards and life changing experiences. The ATCP department   looks forward to working with you throughout your certification process. With hard work and determination you will be an intricate part of an educational component that is designed to help facilitate the learning experiences of all children in the State of Texas.

As discussed during your orientation meeting, you are required to attend mandatory intern support sessions at LSC-North Harris. This is part of the state's requirement for you to be recommended for standard certification. In order to ensure that each of you meets this requirement, we have enrolled you in a 64 hour Clinical and Intern Support Course. This course is designed to offer you support during your internship. You will complete 32 hours in this upcoming fall semester and 32 hours in the spring semester. This is a hybrid course which means that you will conduct most of your dialogue online, however there will be three face-to-face meetings with your instructor per semester.  FYI: There is no additional fee for this course, it is part of your Internship I & Internship II requirements.

In order to expedite this process, your first face-to-face meeting with your instructor will occur on Monday, August 31st, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the computer labs located in the DTEC building at North Harris. The actual course will not begin until after your meeting with the instructors. Please keep in mind that attendance is mandatory, as it is part of your commitment to the Alternative Certification Program. Your instructors would like to have an opportunity to meet with you to talk about the following topics:

    ·         Getting you set up online
    ·         Course syllabi
    ·         Navigating the  Lone Star Online System
    ·         Course expectations
    ·         Upcoming dates for face-to-face meetings
    ·         Other vital Information related to this hybrid course

I have attached a copy of each class roster which shows the room and group assignment as well as your instructor's name. I look forward to working with you during your experience with LSC-North Harris Alternative Teacher Certification Program. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to contact me via email at Felicia.Turner@lonestar.eduor by phone at 281-618-5605. "You have seen what might be, now go and make it so!"
