HIST.2321 & HUMA.1301 Login

Posted by: Chris Davis | December 14, 2009 | No Comment |

For students in my spring-term courses beginning Tuesday, 19 January

Please note that the courses will be conducted the older online learning environment, Vista/Blackboard. You can log directly into your respective course by using the following URLs:

HIST.2321.2W001: http://nhmccdvista4.blackboard.com/webct/logon/28209710045051

HUMA.1301.2W002: http://nhmccdvista4.blackboard.com/webct/logon/28209704418051

Alternatively, you can log into the main system – Angel – and find the appropriate class located there: http://myonline.lonestar.edu/

In Angel, locate the class on the left, under Courses. Note, however, that you will be redirected to the Vista/Blackboard online learning environment. Starting in summer Angel will be used as the online learning environment for all DL courses. Even if you currently have other courses in Angel, my courses should still appear on your Angel homepage.

If you haven’t done so already, you need to obtain your username for accessing the online learning environment where the college hosts our distance-learning courses. First go to the LSC-Online Getting Started site, which has instructions for obtaining your personal login information. Please remember to change your password from the one that was originally issued to you, as there have been cases of identity theft.

If you have any trouble, call the Technical Support staff at 1-866-614-5014. For additional help, visit the Technical Support site. As well, feel free to email me.

Cheap Textbooks…

Posted by: Chris Davis | December 9, 2009 | No Comment |

All of the textbooks for my courses are available at LSC-Kingwood (for courses I teach at this campus) and at LSC-North Harris (for all Distance Learning courses). As well, they are available online through efollet.

However, I recommend you check the following sites, where you can order the required texts much cheaper than at the college-affiliated bookstores/sites. Often, these books can be found elsewhere online at a fraction of the price. For the main textbooks, I’ve seen prices as low as $20–30; for the secondary texts, most can be found for under $10. Check the following places:

http://ww.amazon.com

http://www.ebay.com

http://www.textbookx.com

http://www.gettextbooks.com/

Also, throughout the Houston area, check Half Price Books stores.

Hope this helps.
