A native of Nicaragua, Dr. Reyna Sirias-Ortiz currently is a Professor of Spanish at Lone Star College-Tomball where she is member of the Hispanic Outreach Committee and the Rights and Responsibilities Committee; she is also the Tomball College representative before the Modern Languages Curriculum Committee. Dr. Sirias-Ortiz has taught in Nicaragua, Spain and the United States at all levels. She has a degree in Education with the specialty in Spanish from the Universidad Nacional de Nicaragua (UNAN), a Master’s degree in Spanish from Rice University where she was elected to the Sigma Delta Pi society, Houston chapter, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sirias-Ortiz has published short stories in different publications in the United States.  Currently the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston, Dr. Sirias-Ortiz has recently been appointed Chair of the Institute’s Culture Committee and has volunteered to work as a member of the Scholarship Committee of the same Institute. Dr. Sirias-Ortiz has also been a volunteer for YMCA – Houston, and FUNADEC – Houston.  Dr. Sirias-Ortiz is member of the Modern Language Association (MLA), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the Texas Community Colleges Teachers Association (TCCTA), and the Empire Who’s Who among Executives and Professionals.
