Construction Trades at Lone Star College

Making Houston’s Workforce Stronger

Lone Star College is dedicated to enhancing the teaching and training of career and technical skills needed in Houston’s burgeoning construction industry. The Construction Trades certificates and degrees offered at Lone Star College are designed to prepare individuals for many of the careers that are essential to building construction. Specific coursework offered under the Construction Trades cluster includes: Architectural Design, Construction Supervision, Electrical Technology, HVAC-R, Inspection, Mechanical Design, Pipefitting and Welding. Students pursuing a career in any of the construction trades have an opportunity to earn first or second-level certificates or Associate of Applied Science degrees.

Students may choose two paths of study from programs in the construction trades cluster.

  • Academic certificates and associate degrees are specialized credit programs that prepare students in a specific field. Some certificates can be stacked and applied towards an associate degree.
  • FastTrack, non-credit programs provide industry training which result in a certificate. Students do not earn academic credit with FastTrack programs. They are designed for quick entry into the workforce without the need for core classes.
