Fast-Track Drilling and Exploration Core Skills Program

About the Program

Image of a drilling siteThis course is designed to meet the oil and gas industries need for an educated and prepared workforce, Lone Star College offers a Fast-Track Drilling and Exploration Core Skills Certificate Program (DECS). Funded through a Wagner Peyser Grant from the Governor’s Office, the program provides 135 full scholarships and requires entrance priority for veterans, eligible veteran’s spouse and eligible foster youth. This Fast-Track program is 10 weeks of classroom and lab training that will provide entry-level knowledge and skills needed for workers in the drilling and exploration sector of the oil and gas industry.

Qualified candidates who are eligible will be given the opportunity to take the skills assessment test. Scholarship awards will be finalized based on mandated priority and skill assessment scores.

  • IADC WellCAP® Introduction


This program will require a significant time commitment from students.  Students will be covering 352 hours of course material in only 10 weeks.  Classes will be held Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 PM; some evenings and Saturdays will be required as well.
