Prior Learning Assessment

Getting started

Apply to Lone Star College through Apply Texas and have your military transcripts and DD214 sent to Lone Star College.

How do you apply for PLA:

The Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) application and the Joint Services Transcript (JST) or Air Force Community College transcript are the primary documents needed to evaluate your military training. The JST will contain the needed ACE ID number to assess your individual training and can be requested here. Military transcripts will be used by the Veteran Advisor to assist in identifying eligible courses. The Veteran Advisor will submit your PLA. application to the appropriate department for review. There is no charge for this service.

What is Lone Star College’s plan:

Lone Star College will continue to work through the College Credit for Heroes program to evaluate military training and award college credit based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations. Through this ongoing process, military training will be evaluated for application to additional Lone Star College program areas.

What students are eligible:

All current, separated and retired members of the U.S. armed services, active or reserve

Which campuses offer PLA:

All seven of Lone Star College campuses: LSC-Cy-Fair, LSC-Houston North, LSC-Kingwood, LSC-Montgomery, LSC-North Harris, LSC-Tomball, and LSC-University Park.
