Julon Pinkston

Julon PinkstonI make artwork which uses road debris as semi-recognizable subject matter.  The forms satisfy an interest in exploration the world and of formal ugliness.  The composition of the objects and the titles given to them gives them suggestive meanings and add to the duality of the work.   I use sketches, sculptures and collages while exploring expressive composition when trying to find a source for my drawings and paintings.  I first began to be interested in tires since they were similar to an Abstract Expressionist mark and exist as an object at the same time.  Road debris exists as a result of living in this society, they are abstracted forms created by the consumption and sheer speed of our society.  It is almost inescapable not to be a part of this cycle.  The composition of the objects is intended to give them another type of read, therefore escaping the reality while existing in it.  New meanings and directions are woven into the translation of the objects, existing in the objective world and the subjective mind in a transformative and playful way.
