Handbooks and Manuals

• Handbook of Forensic Services - details procedures used in documenting crime scenes and in gathering evidence. Handbook is compiled by the FBI, one of the largest forensic laboratories in the world.
• U.S. Sentencing Commission - includes guidelines and manuals.

Reports and Publications

• NCJRS Reference Service - provides comprehensive National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts Database which indexes more than 170,000 criminal justice publications. Abstracts are substantial and the database is user friendly.

Statistics

• Bureau of Justice Statistics
• Capital Punishment Statistics - includes execution statistics and characteristics of death-row prisoners.  
• Federal Justice Statistics Resource Center - maintains the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) Federal Justice Statistics Program (FJSP) database, which contains information about suspects and defendants processed in the Federal criminal justice system.
• Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics - continuously updated version of the Sourcebook provides a wealth of information on all aspects of criminal justice.
• Transactional Records Clearinghouse: FBI - use this Syracuse University site to locate FBI staffing levels, enforcement actions, and the incidence of white collar crime by district. Free registration is required to use the site.
• Uniform Crime Reports - Provides crime statistics for 1995 to present. Publications on site include Crime in the United States, Hate Crime Statistics, and Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted.
