Biographical resources

  • The American Experience: The Presidents - this PBS resource focuses on the Presidents of this century, with biographies, historical information and an online teacher's guide.
  • Mr. President - From the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies, site provides thumbnail sketches of each of the former presidents. This is not a detailed site, but a good place to get fast facts.
  • President - official presidential biography from the White House.
  • Presidents - contains biographies, links to speeches and other sites about the Presidents. Site is managed as a partnership between University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, National Archives and Records Administration, SunSITE-USA: Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems, Inc., and the Office of Information Technology.
  • Presidents of the United States (POTUS) - Internet Public Library presents an exceptional site with background information, election results, presidential highlights and links to biographical information about the U.S. presidents.

Documents Publications

  • Inaugural Addresses of the Presidents of the U.S. - from Columbia University's Bartleby Library.
  • State of the Union addresses - from AskSam ebooks and databases. Searchable or downloadable formats.
  • Presidential Pardons - provides educational resources for scholars, policy makers, and citizens interested in the law of presidential pardon, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law's Jurist web site.
  • Presidents - an archive of inaugural addresses, State of the Nation/Union, and Presidential farewell addresses. Site is coordinated by George Welling, Univeristy of Groningen (The Netherlands).
  • Public Papers of the President - makes available materials that are compiled and published in hardcover printed volumes by the same name. Public Papers chronologically organizes the papers and speeches of the President of the United States that were issued by the Office of the Press Secretary during the specified time period. The online service contains materials beginning with President Clinton.
  • Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents - contains statements, messages, and other Presidential materials released by the White House from 1996 onward.

First Ladies

  • First Ladies of the United States - official White House site containing portrait and biography of each of the first ladies through Michelle Obama.
  • National First Ladies' Library - Stark State College of Technology brings together information about the wives of U.S. Presidents. Although providing only citations to books, articles and manuscripts written by and about these women, this site is an excellent starting point for research.
