D2L Student Orientation for Online Courses
Students who are taking online or hybrid courses are required to complete the Student Orientation for Online Courses and finish the quiz at the end with a score of 80% or better. Students must complete the orientation successfully before they are permitted to access their online or hybrid courses. Students who have not successfully completed the orientation have a “hold” on their account – the hold is released when the orientation is completed with the 80% or better score.
What Is the Student Orientation for Online Courses?
A short online orientation (about 1 hour) that prepares students to understand what’s different about taking courses online versus in the classroom; how to adjust study habits to promote success in online courses; and additional resources at Lone Star that are available when students need help.
Who Should Complete the Student Orientation for Online Courses?
All students enrolled in fully online and hybrid courses are required to complete the Student Orientation for Online Courses before being able to access their courses in D2L. The Student Orientation for Online Courses is designed for quick completion—usually in less than an hour.
How Does the Student Orientation for Online Courses Work?
When you first log into the myLoneStar portal, look for the PC mouse icon and its corresponding text label, LSC Online, to view your online courses. When you click the button, a small window will open below the icon that looks like this:
Clicking on "Go to D2L Classes" will take you to any courses you have registered for that are being delivered using D2L, the learning management system.
The Student Orientation for Online Courses is below your course list in a component called Resources within D2L and is listed as part of your course list in D2Las shown to the right.
Click the orientation course link and go through the material, then take the short assessment at the end. After you successfully score an 80% or higher on the assessment, you will be able to access your courses on or after the course start date.
Do I Have to Take the Student Orientation for Online Courses Every Semester?
No. Students who have completed the orientation once will not have to take it again for three years.
