Motorcycle Safety Course

Riding a motorcycle is fun, but both novice and experienced riders need to understand how to manage riding risks. Our North Harris motorcycle training features the TX DOT approved Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course (BRC). The BRC is designed for new riders and emphasises the basics of motorcycling. NOTE: As of Oct 2009, all Texans must complete an official BRC class to obtain a Texas motorcycle endorsement.

This weekend class features five hours of classroom and ten hours on-cycle riding time. The course is designed for both the beginner rider and the experienced rider who want to sharpen existing skills and to learn new ones. Special emphasis is placed on mastering full control of the motorcycle. Once this skill is developed, the course moves to the advanced physical and mental skills needed to ride the motorcycle safely. Some insurance companies may offer a 10 percent discount for three years following completion of the course. Fee includes use of cycles as well as all books and matrials. Minimum age is 15. This course is mandatory for those under 18 to obtain a motorcycle license. Under 18 must have parental consent plus have completed or be enrolled in a concurrent Driver's Education program.

The BRC is conducted on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. This is a very popular course and advanced registration is strongly encouraged (register early). See course schedule for a full class description. Equipment Needs: Friday: pen, paper, and proof of drivers education if under 18 Saturday & Sunday: Helmet (NHC has some to loan), eye protection, long sleve cotton shirt that fastens at the wrists, lightweight gloves with fingers, sturdy cotton jeans, sturdy low-heel boots or leather hightops. The classes are held most weekends. Friday 7 p.m. -10 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. - 4 p.m., & Sunday 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Lastly, we also offer an Experienced Rider Course (ERC) for those folks who have about 3000 miles of motorcycle riding (or more - usually around the 6 month point). The ERC fine tunes your riding techniques using your own motorcycle. For our friends in law enforcement - the BRC & ERC courses also count towards a police officers training requirements.
