Students planning to major in music should follow the AA Field of Study in Music degree plan. The degree transfers seamlessly to Texas universities, and students who complete it transfer as juniors to music programs at colleges and universities in Texas and beyond. Students pursuing the AA or AS in a major other than music will need a visual and performing arts elective. The music departments offer a variety of courses to fulfill this requirement.

Bands, choirs, orchestras and steel drum ensembles are open to students of all majors, and to community members.

Private lessons are available for intermediate and advanced students on most instruments and voice. Beginning guitar, piano and voice students may register for group lessons, through Class Piano, Class Guitar or Class Voice. On some campuses, lessons are available to community members as well.
