Flexibility, Convenience Lead Many to Enroll in Alternative to Standard Semester-Length Classes

Think you'll miss the chance to start college this fall? Think again.

Although registration for Lone Star College–Montgomery’s traditional 16-week semester ends on Saturday, August 25, the college offers a wide variety of Second Start classes with start dates beginning in mid-September through October.

Second Start classes range from three to 14 weeks in length. Students can register up to the first day of class and complete their course by the end of December or earlier, depending on the course’s length and start date.

"This is a great opportunity for those who can’t begin the semester in August," said Dr. Julie Leidig, vice president of instruction at Lone Star College–Montgomery. "We understand that many people can't fit in a 16-week course, so these classes provide a convenient alternative."

A wide variety of Second Start classes are offered, including some LSC-Online formats and Saturday courses. Just like the traditional 16-week courses, Second Start offerings are designed to fit a broad range of academic goals toward certificates, associate’s degrees or university transfer. Program areas that offer Second Start classes include:
