Unemployed Workers Can Receive Financial Aid at LSC-Tomball

Dislocated workers who are receiving unemployment compensation are now eligible to receive federal Pell Grants to attend college.

The Department of Labor is pushing a mass mailing about the availability of Pell Grants to unemployment beneficiaries nationwide to inform them of this opportunity to receive an education or training to help them to get back into the workforce, said Marjo Stach, the Financial Aid Director at LSC-Tomball.

The amount of the Pell Grant awarded will be determined by the number of credit hours in which the student is enrolled.

The first summer session of classes at LSC-Tomball begins June 6, and students can still receive financial aid for the summer as long as the 2008-2009 FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is submitted by June 30.

Enrollment is also under way for the fall 2009 semester and students can apply for financial aid by submitting the 2009-2010 FASFA.
