Do you know your babysitter?
Lone Star College-Kingwood offers a special course designed for babysitters ages 10 and up. This American Red Cross class will cover all aspects of child safety, home safety, role playing in potential problem situations and first aid techniques.
Each student receives a Babysitter's handbook that provides information on injury prevention, first aid and basic child care skills. Participants have an excellent opportunity to build self confidence and apply decision-making skills while earning a Red Cross Babysitting certificate.
Some of the topics covered in this 9-hour course are:
- Interviewing for a babysitting job;
- Choosing safe and age-appropriate toys and games;
- Performing first aid;
- Learning diapering and feeding techniques;
- Learning tips for having a safe babysitting experience;
- Handling bedtime issues;
- Marketing yourself safely.
The babysitting course will be offered several times throughout the summer as part of Lone Star College-Kingwood's own summer youth program Discovery College 2007.
Discovery College gives students ages 6-14 an opportunity to enhance existing talents or develop new ones through a variety of classes encouraging hands-on participation in age-appropriate groups beginning June 4 through August 9. Concepts of math, science, art, reading, and computer technology are taught in a project-oriented way that makes learning not just fun, but irresistible.
