Lone Star College-Kingwood biology professor Betsy Morgan will share her experiences of her study trip to the Galapagos Islands last year during a class entitled, “The Galapagos: Evolution of an Ecological Treasure” on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at LSC-Kingwood.
“I hope participants will gain understanding of the fragility of this ecosystem and an appreciation for the unusual species and environments of the Galapagos,” said Morgan.
Morgan received a 2008 Lone Star College System Faculty Exploration Grant that allowed her to travel to the Galapagos Islands and study with a master naturalist to learn more about the fragile, and sometimes endangered, ecosystem of the islands.
During the evening, Ms. Morgan will present her findings from the trip along with information about a full lecture series scheduled for Spring 2010 and a travel study back to the islands for students and the community in the summer of 2010.
Registration is required for the presentation at a cost of $19 person. Senior citizens receive a discounted rate of $15.80.
Registering for continuing education classes is easy. Students can register by telephone at 281-312-1660 or 281-312-1661. Students can also register online at Kingwood.LoneStar.edu or in person in Classroom Building A, Room 107.
