ESOL Offers New Curriculum

Lone Star College-Kingwood's Intensive English Program is launching a new English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) curriculum in spring 2008. The new curriculum is comprised of four levels in reading, writing, and oral communication.

ESOL courses are offered in 8 and 16 week formats during the day and in the evening.  These courses are designed to help ESOL students enhance their fluency and accuracy in spoken and written English.

Small class sizes allow each participant a maximum amount of individual attention from highly-qualified instructors and an opportunity to develop conversational and written skills. Students have access to a state-of-the-art computer lab, where they can use the latest computer software programs and Internet resources to practice their English.

Lone Star College-Kingwood is authorized to issue the I-20 for students who need to obtain an F-1 student visa for full-time intensive English study. All new international students must attend an international student information session during their first semester.

The Lone Star College-Kingwood Intensive English Program offers two types of ESOL courses: Academic ESOL and ESOL for Communication.

Academic ESOL courses are for students who wish to learn and improve their English for academic purposes or daily activities. The program has four levels ranging from the beginner to the advanced in oral communication, writing, and reading. Grammar is covered in all classes, especially in oral communication and writing. All new students must take the placement test, currently Compass ESL, before enrollment.

In addition to academic ESOL, Lone Star College-Kingwood offers ESOL for Communication classes, designed for students who wish to learn and improve their English for their work and other daily activities. This program has four levels. Each course is integrated allowing students to improve their grammar, speaking, listening comprehension, writing, reading and vocabulary in the same class. All new students must take the placement test, currently Compass ESL, before enrollment.

Registration for the spring semester and December mini-mester is going on now.  Students can register in one of three ways: phone, online or on campus.  Classes are offered days, evenings, or weekends in traditional, Internet, video, TV and independent study formats. Current students can register by telephone at 281-519-6625. Former and current students can register online at kingwood.lonestar.edu/registration.
