Published on: December 05, 2007Two new classes will be offered at Lone Star College-Kingwood and are open to all community members. Family Wellness and Personal Growth taught by Kimberly Boyd and Emotional Wellness taught by Alysha Roll are wonderful opportunities for those who want to learn about themselves and improve the way they conduct their daily lives.
Children may not come with instructions, but this offering can make the experience easier. The six-week Family Wellness and Personal Growth course will address communication and listening skills. Students will gain knowledge about guidance, teaching and discipline, coping with emotions, anger and stress management, self-care, goal setting, development and temperament issues.
Two sections are available beginning January 13 and March 19. Classes will be held Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at a cost of $62 or $50 for seniors (50+).
The class will be led by Boyd, director of counseling, Family Time Crisis and Counseling Center. Boyd is a licensed professional counselor and supervisor.
Coping with stress is hard. The new interactive class Emotional Wellness can help. This eight-week course will focus on stress management and relaxation. Roll says, "In order to be emotionally healthy we need to spend some time addressing certain areas like self-esteem, stress management, etc. The Emotional Wellness class provides people the opportunity to do that in a safe environment. It is a time to tone, build and flex your emotional muscles."
The participants will have the opportunity to evaluate their strengths and then learn problem-solving, time management, communication and goal setting skills. "Everyone could use some help enhancing their self-care skill set," remarks Roll.
Roll is currently in private practice in Kingwood as a licensed Clinical Social Worker and board approved supervisor. This six-week course is offered Jan. 15 and April 1 with classes meeting on Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. The cost is $82 or $66 for seniors (50+).
