HOUSTON (Jan. 21, 2010) – Truvy’s Hair Salon is coming to Lone Star College-Kingwood as the drama department puts on their first production of “Steel Magnolias” Feb. 25-28. The production will be in the SFA Performing Arts Theatre and show times are 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 25-27 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 27-28.
“Steel Magnolias” was chosen for its comedy and familiarity as well as to balance out the all-male cast of the fall production, “Gross Indecency.” The spring production features five students: Hannah Aldridge as Annelle; Ryann Chambers as Shelby; Heather Smith as Clairee; Megan Sorley as M’Lynn; and Brittany Washington as Truvy; and one community member, Sharon Lands Sheppard as Ouiser.
“This play is purely entertaining. It has been a ‘best-seller’ and ‘award-winning’ since it premiered in 1987,” Eric Skiles, artistic director of theatre at LSC-Kingwood, said. “This play is uplifting and celebrates the deep bonds of friendship that see us all through good times and bad times.”
Tickets to “Steel Magnolias” are $12 for general admission; $10 for seniors age 55 or older; and $5 for students, faculty and staff. For more details on the production, call 281.312.1532.
