LSC-North Harris Speech Team excels at National Competition



The Lone Star College-North Harris competitive speech team recently earned first overall in their division at this year's Phi Rho Pi National Speech Tournament. Members of the team garnered Individual Events Sweepstakes as well as Overall (Individual Events and Debate Events) Sweepstakes in the Hindman Division for small entries. More than 400 competitors representing 67 community colleges across the country traveled to New Orleans for the event.

Adriana Boyd placed third overall in the Top Speakers category by taking a Gold Award in Reader's Theater, a Gold Award in Programmed Oral Interpretation, a Gold Award in Poetry and a Bronze award in Speech to Entertain. She also received the Warren-Dahlin Fellowship Award for Students given to those who best exemplify the spirit of competition.
LSC-North Harris’ other student competitors also excelled at the competition. Derek Lloyd earned a Gold Award in Reader’s Theatre and a Bronze Award in Prose. Earlene Luellen earned a Gold Award in Reader’s Theatre and a Bronze Award in Poetry. Amanda Vennebush also earned a Gold Award in Reader’s Theatre and a Bronze Award in Prose. 
      
Wade Hescht, the Director of Forensics for LSC-North Harris, received the Collie-Taylor Fellowship Award for Coaches given to those who best exemplify the finest qualities of a Phi Rho Pi educator
