Learn the basics of automotive maintenance for only $51 at LCS-North Harris

The last place anyone wants to be this summer is stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire or a broken down vehicle. Basic Automotive Maintenance for Women at Lone Star College-North Harris teaches students how to spot problems before they are left stranded, and also the simple fixes that can get them moving again.

The course, which is open to both men and women, is offered through the colleges continuing education program. The four-week class cost only $51 and meets every Friday from July 16 through Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held at the Applied Technology building on the LSC-North Harris campus located at 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive in North Houston.

Designed as an introduction to the fundamentals of automobile service, students in the class will be acquainted with the proper periodic service procedures needed to maintain an automobile in a safe and economical operating condition. Students will learn basic oil maintenance, and how to correctly inspect tires, brakes, lights, wipers and fluid levels.

The class will also focus on the correct procedures for changing a flat tire, and the importance and procedures of tire rotation will also be covered in detail. Other topics covered include annual inspection, seasonal preparations, and knowing what engine repair warning signs to recognize.
