Open Auditions Set Sept. 7 for “The Quadroon Ball”

Lone Star College-CyFair Drama Department will hold open auditions in September for Damon Wright’s play “The Quadroon Ball.”

Auditions will be held at the LSC-CyFair Main Stage Theatre from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. beginning Sept. 8. All actors will not be required for every rehearsal.

Director Ron Jones needs 22 men and women of all races and ages. There are no children’s roles.  The audition will consist of reading from the script, a prepared 45-second to one-minute dramatic monologue and although the play is not a musical, some simple dancing will be required in some roles.

“The Quadroon Ball” is a moving drama taking place in New Orleans just prior to the Civil War.  It focuses on the women of mixed race who were prized for their beauty, said Jones. The play traces 20 years in the life of a beautiful Quadroon (¼ black and ¾ white) woman whose life is affected both by the man of royalty who loves her and the presence of slavery in society.

Performances will be held Oct. 13 through Oct. 17 in the Main Stage Theatre, which is located in the Center for the Arts building at 9191 Barker Cypress.

For an audition appointment or information, contact Jones at 281.290.3929.
