LSCS unveils new technology portal

Published on: August 27, 2010

Lone Star College System has evolved its technology in time for the fall semester. MyRecords, a portal that allowed faculty/staff and students to view pertinent information, will now transfer to myLoneStar. Employees and students will only have access to MyRecords through myLoneStar beginning Sept. 13.

“The purpose of myLoneStar is to create an online community with our current stakeholders like students, faculty, staff and vendors. It will offer many existing services like registering for classes and student e-mail as well as new services within a safe and secure environment by offering one site and one login,” said Jen Murillo, executive director of OTS Portal Services.

One of the main highlights of myLoneStar is to get more students to enroll and register for classes online. As an incentive, students who register and use the new portal have an opportunity to win all-access passes to BuzzFest in October at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands. Students can sign on to their myLoneStar account and can register once a day through October 14 to win tickets.

“The portal will benefit students, faculty, and staff by consolidating the functions that they need in one place, providing easier access to everything from grades and scheduling for students to grading, benefits information, reports, travel, and expenses for faculty and staff,” said Dr. Rebecca Riley, vice president of Instruction.

myLoneStar also offers connectivity to Lone Star College technology tickets and 25 GB of online storage space for students and grading, as well as communication tools with students and advising services for faculty.

Register now for credit classes in one of three ways: phone, online or on campus.  Classes are offered days, evenings, or weekends in traditional, Internet, video, TV and independent study formats. Current students can register by telephone at 281-591-6625. Former and current students can register online at www.LoneStar.edu/registration
